Incendiary March in Memory of Combative Student Mauricio Miranda in Santiago, Chile

On Thursday, September 22, an incendiary march was held in the vicinity of the Manuel Barros Borgoño High School in commemoration of the death of the young student Mauricio Miranda, who committed suicide in 2017 and who in life was characterized by his enthusiasm in the combative student struggles both on the streets and in the high school that he attended (MBB). In his memory we spread a leaflet that said: “May the precariousness of mental health within the high schools, marginality and discrimination not take the lives of more comrades. May mutual aid and solidarity be the basis of our struggle and organization.”

At the same time, students gathered for a new day of protests, agitating for a decent education in the area of Alameda, with barricades and confrontations against the presence of Carabineros (COP) at the high school of Moneda and the University of Chile.

We carried banners and spread leaflets that read “Against this false democracy and the commercialization of education – popular power and insurrection”, “Neither false promises nor illusions, we want solutions: AVILA* OUT!”

*Note: Refers to the Minister of Public Education, Marco Antonio Ávila Lavanal.
