The Turkish army is trying to gain a foothold in the guerrilla areas in South Kurdistan. However, the guerrillas are putting up massive resistance and are repeatedly forcing the attackers onto the defensive.
HPG fighters Azad Tolhildan and Çekdar Serhed spoke about the war developments in the Medya Defense Areas in this ANF interview.
Guerrilla Azad Tolhildan spoke about the great progress the guerrillas have made in war tactics and strategy.
He said: “The actions carried out in winter in particular have hit Ankara in the heart. The morale of the soldiers and village guards who are fighting against us is miserable. Every day we hear reports of suicides. This is happening right before our eyes. The occupying army, with the support of the Barzani clan, had brought mercenaries from Syria to the Medya Defense Areas. These mercenaries are fighting against us in the uniforms of the Turkish army. Neither the Turkish army nor the mercenaries and collaborators have been able to stop our resistance. These mountains belong to us. They are our homes. The occupying army may have come with tanks and guns, but the guerrillas had permanently controlled the field. We have never stopped acting and fighting against the enemy. The current war shows this clearly. The enemy himself has admitted that he cannot fight us because of our tunnels. As Kurdish freedom fighters, we believe that with the tactics and war strategy we have developed, we will be successful in this fight.”
“We will deal the enemy a fatal blow”
Guerrilla Çekdar Serhed said that the Turkish state does not know any moral rules in total war. He pointed to the use of chemical weapons and stressed that none of this could stop the guerrillas.
He said: “The guerrillas continue their actions successfully and inflict heavy blows on the occupiers. Since the occupiers’ plan has failed, they want to involve all forces in the region in this war. So far, only the Barzani clan and partly the Iraqi government are working with the enemy. The Turkish state has not been able to achieve lasting success despite the support of collaborators. On the contrary, it is experiencing a decline in the economic, military and political fields. The occupying army tries to replace the soldiers every 10 to 15 days, but because of the guerrilla actions they cannot be moved. These soldiers commit suicide because they cannot bear the situation. They throw away their weapons. This shows the failure of the occupying army. The enemy had suffered heavy blows. We have wounded him. We will completely drive the enemy out of our land by dealing him a last blow. This land is sacred and soaked with the blood of the martyrs, so we will not leave even the shadow of the enemy on it.”
