Delal Xezal Akıl was born into a patriotic family in Cizîra Botan region, the heart of Kurdistan. She grew up with the Botan culture in Cizre, the city of uprising, and witnessed the oppression of the enemy at an early age. Rebelling against oppression and injustice is in the spirit of Botan women. With this stance, they led many rebellions and actions and became the symbol of war in Kurdistan. For them, remaining silent against oppression is the biggest betrayal. Giving the necessary answer to the enemy is their most important and honourable duty. For them, the way to honourable life passes through the mountains of Kurdistan. For this reason, they turn to the mountains and the philosophy of Rêber Apo (Leader Abdullah Öcalan).
2015 is a very meaningful and important year in the history of the Freedom Movement. A year full of heroism and struggle. In those days when the heart of every Kurdish youth beat for freedom, Delal ran after freedom by listening to the voice of her heart. As a runner who has locked herself in success, she took a step towards the truth and knocked on the door of revolutionaries. She took her first step there and never agreed to take a step back. She participated in the Self-Government Resistance with a confident stance. To her, Martyr Commander Delal Amed’s call was the voice of freedom, and based on this call, she joined the ranks of YPS (Civil Defense Units) in 2015.
She joined Zeryan Denîz Amed, one of the pioneers of the urban war, and learned from her the stance of a warrior woman. Together with her commander, she witnessed every step and found answers to the question of how to live a real life. Delal, who joined the war with the strength and courage she learnt from her commander, took the name of her nephew Aram (Agit Akıl), who had been martyred in the 2015 Cizre resistance, and became Zarîn Aram. Having gained a lot of experience in a short time, Zarîn Aram took to the mountains in 2016 to avenge her comrades who were martyred in Cizre. In 2016, Zarîn travelled to the Besta region and was impressed by the comradeship of the guerrillas and the pioneering mission of the YJA Star militants. Trained as a new fighter in Besta, she had the consciousness and practice of an experienced cadre despite being a new and young fighter.
After a stay in Besta, Zarîn Aram moved to the Medya Defence Zones and received training to improve herself militarily. Zarîn Aram, who pioneered her comrades with the experience she gained in urban battles, promised herself the following when she joined the guerrilla ranks: ‘Throughout my life of struggle, I will take comrade Zeryan’s stance as an example and I will be worthy of their labour with my struggle. I became their follower. Following in their footsteps is only possible by fulfilling my promise.’ This was Zarîn’s philosophy, her real philosophy of life. In the struggle for freedom, not only physical participation was not enough, participating in the reality of Leader Apo and the martyrs with all your cells is the right participation.
Zarîn got involved in practical work after the training and was influenced by the struggle of martyr Armanç Goşkar (Suna Kızılkaya), one of the pioneering commanders of YJA Star. The guerrilla Zarîn, who stayed with commander Armanç Goşkar for a long time, learnt from that commander how to carry the identity of a free woman properly and how to respond to the process. Realising that her responsibilities are now even heavier, guerrilla Zarîn received training at the Martyr Mahîr Specialisation Academy in 2019. The guerrilla Zarîn, who focused on Rêber Apo’s perspectives and Women’s Liberation Ideology, completed her training at the best level. Zarîn Aram was now ready to take any kind of duty and responsibility after the training. Taking Martyr Delal Amed as an example, Zarin took part in the work within Hêzên Taybet (Special Forces).
The guerrilla Zarîn, who played an active role in the resistance against the operations launched by the occupying Turkish army in April 2022 in the Zap, Avaşîn and Metîna regions, would take revenge on the enemy for her comrades martyred in Cizre. Martyr Delîl took part in the actions in the Western Zap region where the invaders were dealt great blows and actively participated in both tunnel warfare and revolutionary operations with a great sacrificial spirit. Zarîn was witnessing such an operation for the first time, and she utilised this opportunity to the fullest with her actions. With every blow she struck against the enemy, she was acting with the aim of realising the dream of her martyred comrades. Having taken part in the preparation of war tunnels, infrastructure works, revolutionary operations and field teams with a great sense of responsibility, she had now become a fully professional guerrilla.
Zarîn Aram, who fulfils the requirements of the YJA Star identity in every work she was involved in, spent her whole life full of struggle. She won the love and respect of all her comrades with her energy, morale and joy of life. The guerrilla Zarîn Aram, who fought until her last breath in the Martyr Delil Field, who made great efforts both in the tunnel war and in the field war, inscribed her name in golden letters in the history of the guerrilla with her hardworking, sacrificing and combative stance. Comrade Zarîn was martyred on 3 May 2024 in the Zap region as a result of an attack by the Turkish state and joined the caravan of the immortals.
