Paraguay Requests Extradition of Six Alleged EPP Members From Venezuela

The Paraguayan judiciary has asked the Venezuelan authorities to extradite six women from the same family accused of being members of the Paraguayan People’s Army (EPP) guerrillas, who arrived in the country after passing through Argentina.
They had been granted refugee status in Argentina but, after losing that status last October, they left for Venezuela. The six women are considered to be close to Carmen Villalba held since 2004 and considered one of the founders of the EPP in 2008.
Carmen Villalba was sentenced to 18 years in prison for a kidnapping carried out by the EPP, and to an additional 7 years for taking a guard hostage. The EPP kidnapped the country’s former vice president in 2020.
