The Rojava Revolution Is in Grave Danger

The YPG in Rojava says it has reached a ceasefire with Turkish-backed fighters after the US occupation forces mediated a withdrawal of Kurdish revolutionary forces from Manbij,

The Syrian National Army (SNA), a Turkish-backed coalition of disparate groups, attacked the city of Manbij, about 40km from the Turkish border, soon after the fall of the Assad regime.

At least 218 people have been killed in clashes between its fighters and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which has implemented its political program in Manbij for eight years since defeating the Turkish-backed ISIS.

On Wednesday, Mazloum Abdi, the head of SDF, said that YPG fighters would withdraw from the area as soon as possible as their goal was to achieve a ceasefire across the whole of Syria.

“We have reached a ceasefire agreement in Manbij via US mediation,” he said.

The collapse of the Assad regime has sparked fears of a fresh outbreak of civil war between Turkish-backed rebels and Kurdish revolutionary groups, as the Rojava Revolution and Palestinian Revolution’s are now facing unprecedented difficulties.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Turkish president, considers the Kurdish enclave in north-east Syria, known as Rojava, as a safe haven for PKK insurgents who have carried out a decades-long insurgency against Ankara.
The Revolutionary Communard Party/ United Freedom Forces (DKP/BÖG) released a statement regarding the latest developments and current situation in Syria.

“In the conjuncture of the 3rd Imperialist War, the invasion attacks against the peoples of Syria and Rojava have gained momentum. The invasion attacks launched by HTS against the Syrian regime with the support of AKP-MHP fascism on 27 November, and simultaneously by the SNA gangs against Til Rifat and then Manbij continue with the collapse of the 61-year-old Ba’ath regime and the honourable resistance of the SDF and the Kurdish people,” said the DKP/BÖG statement on Wednesday.

“Fascist Erdoğan and his government offered its full support to the ISIS gangs and gave the message from the first moment that it was on the side of the new Syrian government. Fascist Erdoğan is the planner of this invasion attack and the executor in the background. The peoples of Syria and Rojava are paying the price of the dirty deals of international imperialism.

Turkish fascism and Israeli Zionism took advantage of the tensions in the international conjuncture and accelerated their invasion attempts. Under the pretext of their so-called security, Israel on the one hand and the Turkish state on the other are occupying Rojava and Syrian territories by means of gangs. These two massacring states of the Middle East act under the direct patronage of imperialism.”

This week, the Zionist regime has launched strikes on military sites in Syria, ranging from weapons depots to naval vessels, and sent troops into the Golan Heights, expanding its military occupattion of Syrian territory.

On Tuesday, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the Islamist group that led the ousting of the Assad regime, said that it had taken control of the eastern city of Deir Ezzor from the SDF, which was originally seized from ISIS. The loss of these two cities, in such a short period, spells trouble for the revolutionary project.
