On March 18 of this year, in Toribío, Cauca, at night, the ex-FARC gang unleashed a fire in a house in the Primero de Mayo neighborhood, causing the power to be cut off in the town.
Because of this, the indigenous communities supported by the Indigenous Guard, expelled this gang, since they caused fear and anguish to the inhabitants, they also arrested three members of this group who were surprised while attacking the house.
They questioned the State for its absence and lack of attention to the problems of the region. The police who were at the station a block and a half from the event did nothing about it. The inhabitants of this municipality are asking for more support for the community. This is not the first time this situation has occurred; in 2024, on October 13, the same community arrested other groups of ex-FARC bandits who were perpetrating armed harassment, making them leave the town.
The people have the right to rise up against those who oppress them and do not respect the right to life, the organized communities are the main authority in their territory, with autonomy to build their life projects and regulate coexistence. We as ELN have always respected the autonomy of indigenous communities and accompany their struggles.
