India: Police Officer Killed in Maoist Ambush

On Sunday evening, Maoist guerrillas set fire to an excavator in a mining company near Dondra (Sukma district, Chhattisgarh state). On Monday morning, they ambushed the team of police officers who had come to carry out the investigation. A deputy police commissioner was killed in one attack. The Maoists targeted the police vehicle and triggered a powerful IED.

Commissioner Akash Rao, who was seriously injured in the explosion, was rushed to Konta Hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after. Several other police officers were also injured in the ambush and were transferred to Jagdalpur hospital for treatment.
