Statement of the Defend Kurdistan Initiative on attacks by the Turkish state
After the Turkish occupying state started to attack various cities in Rojava and north-eastern Syria, as well as in southern Kurdistan and Rojhilat with the air force in the night from November 19th to November 20th, as previously announced, Kurdish organizations also and associations, including internationalist organizations and groups, took a stand against it and filled the streets of the various European cities with their anger and protest.
The internationalist initiative Defend Kurdistan also speaks out against the renewed occupier attacks by the Turkish occupying state against Rojava and north-eastern Kurdistan.
The statement of the initiative states:
“After months of war crimes, chemical warfare and massacres in the mountains of Kurdistan, Turkish fascism has bombed large parts of Kurdistan with a new offensive. Since late Saturday evening, the Turkish state has attacked numerous targets in Rojava (Western Kurdistan/Northern Syria) and Başûr (Southern Kurdistan/Northern Iraq).
From Şehba via Kobanê, Dêrik, to Shengal and the Qandil Mountains, a front of about 700 km is under heavy fire.
With the recent false flag attack in Taksim – Istanbul, Erdogan and the AKP-MHP hope to further distract from their defeat in Southern Kurdistan against the People’s Defense Forces (HPG) and provide a justification for their intensified war against Rojava/Northern and East Syria.
Despite killer drones, chemical warfare and non-stop terror against its own population, the Erdogan regime has not succeeded in breaking the resistance of the Kurdish people. The goal of these attacks is to destroy the revolution in Kurdistan and end the struggle for freedom and self-determination.
If Qandil, Shengal, Rojava and all Liberated Areas are attacked, the hope of revolution in Rojava will be extinguished. This glimmer of hope has shown people around the world that a different way of living together is possible and worth fighting for – together. These attacks are an attack on all people who stand with the Kurdistan Freedom Movement. If internationalism is the tenderness of peoples, then it is time that all people shoulder to shoulder defend Kurdistan against this fascist aggression.
It is obvious that these attacks are illegal under international law. It shows that this aggression is carried out with the support of NATO, the weapons of the western states and the consent of the Russian Federation. As people and democratic forces around the world, we have a duty and a need to take action! Create publicity for the attacks! Inform your families, friends, neighbors, local newspapers, clubs, movements and politicians! Organize rallies and demonstrations! Go to the locations of the war machine, disrupt the industry and market of death! Let’s hold the supporters and profiteers of this war accountable!
Kobane, the resistance capital where ISIS suffered its first and decisive defeat in 2014, is today under attack by the fascist Turkish state, which is trying to do what ISIS failed to do. Our response must be greater than 2014, greater than 2018 and 2019 when we rose up for Afrin and Serekaniyê. We have an ethical and political duty to defend whatever world we want to live in! We must prove once again that people’s solidarity and common struggle are stronger than the greatest military means. We can take strong steps to overthrow Turkish fascism through economic, political, diplomatic and other measures!
The resistance of the people in Northern Syria, Southern Kurdistan and Northern Kurdistan/Turkey and especially the women’s revolution in Rojhîlat/Iran have cornered Turkish fascism. It’s time to overthrow him!
It’s time! See you on the street!
As an initiative to defend Kurdistan, we call on everyone to:
→ Organize emergency gatherings to raise awareness
→ Establish your local Defend Kurdistan groups and platforms
→ Get active! Mobilize, Resist, Block – Smash Turkish Fascism!
Long live the resistance in Kurdistan! Long live the women’s revolution!
Freedom for Ocalan!
