Filipino Groups Condemn New US Intervention In Venezuela

The Philippines-Bolivarian Venezuela Friendship Association (PBVFA) and Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) expressed unity with the Global Day of Solidarity with Venezuela and for Peace in Latin America and the Caribbean on August 31. This was held amid US disinformation campaign accusing Venezuela of being involved in narcotics trafficking. The PBVFA called this as “yet another ridiculous pretext to justify US intervention” in Venezuela.

Accompanying the disinformation campaign, seven US warships swarmed the waters near Venezuela under the guise of operations against illegal drug cartels. Venezuela’s president viewed this as a threat of invasion and stated that Venezuelans are ready to defend their sovereignty. He also mocked the deployment of a US nuclear submarine in Venezuelan waters purportedly for combating drug cartels.

“There is no chance that they can enter Venezuela,” president Nicolas Maduro said. He said the Venezuelan military and citizens are prepared to defend their country and sovereignty. The neighboring country, Colombia, is also ready to help and has already sent 25,000 soldiers to the border it shared with Venezuela to assist if needed.

Bayan stated that the US deployment to the Caribbean against Venezuela is just the latest in many US schemes for “regime change.” “This escalation is deplorable. It is clearly a reprisal against the Venezuelan people’s steadfast resistance to U.S. interventions and wars of aggression, which have brought nothing but plunder, fascist terror, the trampling of national sovereignty, and the use of people as cannon fodder in proxy wars in many countries across the globe,” Bayan said.

“The U.S. has been punishing Venezuelan citizens through harsh economic sanctions and a blockade that have severely disrupted access to basic necessities like food, medicine, and healthcare, causing a social crisis that has forced many to flee their country, only to become targets and victims of fascist, imperialist immigrant policies by the US,” PBVFA stated.

The PBVFA and Bayan called on “all peace- and freedom-loving citizens” to stand up against US wars of aggression and interventions, expose its false justifications, and strengthen the movement for genuine peace based on justice and sovereignty.

Together with other anti-imperialist organizations worldwide, they call: Hands off Venezuela!
