US-backed violence by the Marcos regime will neither break the Filipino people’s struggle for liberation nor prevent international allies from extending support

Friends of the Filipino People in Struggle (FFPS) is proud to announce its participation in the currently ongoing “Grounding Solidarity” International Solidarity Mission to communities in the Philippines affected by climate imperialism and militarism.
“The mission is very timely as the Philippines and its people are on the frontier of vulnerability from climate change, human rights abuses and US imperialism’s growing war preparations against China.” said global chair of FFPS Robert Reid.
Amid corruption scandals exposing the plunder of billions of pesos of public funds, the US-Marcos regime and its cronies continue to use military violence to silence dissent. In a recent FFPS webinar, Karapatan Secretary General Tinay Palabay criticized Marcos’ so-called National Action Plan for Peace and Development, calling it “a national action plan for state terrorism, exploitation and oppression of the NTF-ELCAC,” saying it aims to suppress and end all forms of struggle and protest against feudalism, bureaucratic capitalism and imperialism.
In the countryside, the US-Marcos regime has imposed a de-facto martial law, which includes a blackout of media and communications. This means that many of the heinous rights violations in militarized communities are hidden from the world.
Reid highlighted that international solidarity missions are urgent opportunities for international allies to help break the military cordon around civilian rural villages and expose the crimes of the US-Marcos regime to the world.
“Over the years, I have been part of many solidarity and fact-finding missions to the Philippines. In all cases, we have been able to bring back to our countries and the international community what we have witnessed in the Philippines, and have helped the Filipino people and their struggle for national and social liberation.”
Despite the US-Marcos regime’s violence and repression against the Philippine movement and its allies, the Filipino people have time and again proven that they are an irrepressible people. As international solidarity allies, we stand with their struggle for national and social liberation and will continue to amplify their aspirations in the international community.
