Colombian soldiers killed “Maikol,” a commander of the 57th Front, a FARC dissident group, during fighting in a rural area of Tuluá, in the Valle del Cauca region.
The operation took place in the village of La Arenosa, as part of Operation “Ayacucho Plus,” where troops clashed with members of the guerrilla group for two days. A second member of the FARC’s 57th Front was killed in the operation.
Maikol was accused of coordinating homicides, collecting the revolutionary tax, and managing the group’s resources. He was also wanted on warrants for criminal conspiracy, aggravated homicide, and illegal possession of firearms, among other offenses.
These deaths come on top of the arrest by Valle del Cauca police of “Juan José”, 23, a suspected member of the urban support networks of the 57th Front, active in Seville and Caicedonia, in the north of Valle del Cauca.
