Two AFP Soldiers Killed In Encounter With NPA Unit In Samar Province

New People’s Army (NPA)-Western Samar (Arnulfo Ortiz Command) Red fighters killed two soldiers of the Intelligence Service of the AFP (ISAFP) and Military Intelligence Battalion (MIB) under the 8th ID in a battle. The encounter occurred at around 1:32 a.m. in Barangay Babaclayon, San Jose de Buan, Samar Province.

NPA-Western Samar reported that two of its fighters exchanged gunfire with 8th ID troopers. They were in the community to consult the masses who suffer from the soldiers’ militarization.

At least 20 soldiers had been operating in the said community for three days on that day. Defying heavy military presence, the Red fighters boldly entered to carry out revolutionary work.

At dawn on December 3, intelligence operatives of ISAFP/MIB surrounded the house where they stayed and forced them to surrender. In response, the comrades ensured the civilians’ safety and helped the whole family leave the house safely.

One Red fighter later opened fire at the soldiers, catching them off guard. According to NPA-Western Samar, the Red fighter lay prone right in front of the enemies while firing his pistol. He was the only one armed at that moment. Two fascist troops were killed in the battle.

The two Red fighters jumped out of the house to escape while under enemy fire. They deftly broke out of the soldiers’ siege.

“The comrades showed extraordinary courage, daring, and unwavering resolve not to surrender or bow down to the enemy even in the face of death,” NPA-Western Samar spokesperson Ka Tirado Dagohoy said. He also reported that the two are safe and one suffered only a minor gunshot wound.

“His scars will serve as a lifelong medal of courage and valor for not faltering in the face of many enemies,” Ka Tirado said. He added that the courage and valor shown by the two fighters in battling danger and threat to their lives will serve as a model for many comrades.

He said the courage of these fighters is vastly incomparable to the traitors who, like dogs with tails between their legs before the enemy, surrendered and allowed themselves to be used for the dark intent of harming the movement and the masses. “The true army of the people always prioritizes the welfare of the masses and never abandons the masses they serve,” Ka Tirado added.

The NPA Eastern Visayas Regional Operations Command also extended greetings and recognition to the two Red fighters. “The Red fighters of NPA-Western Samar are praiseworthy for firmly upholding the welfare of the people and not abandoning their service to the masses and the revolution even in a life-and-death situation and the enemy’s open call for surrender,” regional command spokesperson Ka Karlos Manuel said.

Meanwhile, Ka Karlos denounced the 8th ID’s lies that the NPA-Western Samar used a child as a “human shield.” He refuted this since the NPA ensured the family’s safe exit from the house.

In shame and defeat, the 8th ID and even the Philippine Army issued statements left and right over the death of two of their soldiers. This once again disproved the claim of Ferdinand Marcos Jr in July that “no guerrilla groups remain in the country.”
