“New IRA” New Year Statement: “Political Prisoners Are the Backbone of All Revolutionary Struggles Around the World.”

As the year 2025 draws to a close, we send revolutionary greetings to all genuine republican activists and supporters of the struggle for Irish liberation, both at home and abroad.

We continue to praise IRA volunteers for their unwavering loyalty to Ireland. We ask that you continue training and do everything possible to attack the Crown forces when the opportunity presents itself.

We stand in solidarity with our imprisoned comrades and their families. Political prisoners are the backbone of all revolutionary struggles around the world. Over the last year we have seen numerous attempts to break the political will of Irish republican political prisoners. They have all clearly failed.

There is, much to the embarrassment of the crown forces and their former republican servants at Stormont, the enormous support from the nationalist community, at short notice, to mobilize and denounce any further injustice inflicted on our volunteers in the prisons. Pressure, as a direct result of these protests, continues to force the MI5-led prison regime to reverse its wrongdoing. We ask for your continued support.

We continue to see, with indignation, the traitors who have refused to recognize the Irish republican political prisoners, presenting them as criminals, while highlighting the plight of other political prisoners around the world for identical struggles. Their silence in the face of injustices occurring on their own doorstep is a testament to their continued betrayal of the Irish republican cause; It will also be their legacy.

Over the past year, there has been a sharp increase in capitalist-imperialist war efforts around the world, as empires compete for territory and wealth, ignoring the sovereignty of a nation. We salute all organizations and forms of resistance used against imperialist forces. We send our full support to all anti-imperialist organizations in the current conflicts, gratefully accepting the same camaraderie in return.

These are not struggles that can be won without international support; Their fight is our fight and ours is theirs.

We ask the general people of Ireland not to be fooled by those who try to take on the mantle of the republican movement. Let us give no respite to false Republican constitutional prophets and right-wing reactionaries who twist the history books in an effort to give their bigoted ideology some kind of patriotic cred. The republican fight has always been for a united Ireland; It began with armed action against the forces of the crown and has continued through each generation since its birth; It is not a tradition that can be diluted by career opportunists.

Our intentions for the year 2026 are to continue the resistance to the occupation of our country. We are and remain the Few but Faithful with an Immortal Dream, who cannot be bought or forced to surrender.

We encourage everyone who wants to play their part in the ‘patriot game’ to join the IRA and help liberate our land.

Happy Revolutionary New Year from the leadership of the Irish Republican Army.

signed,
T O’Neill

The New Irish Republican Army (Irish: Arm Poblachtach Nua na hÉireann, English: New Irish Republican Army, New IRA, NIRA) abbreviated as “New IRA” and also called IRA 2012, is an Irish republican paramilitary group. It is a continuation of the Authentic Irish Republican Army (Authentic IRA), which began calling itself the New IRA in July 2012 when the group Republican Action Against Drugs (RAAD) and other small republican militant groups merged. The group calls itself the “Irish Republican Army.”[5]

The New IRA has launched numerous attacks against the Police Service of Northern Ireland (SPIN) and the British Army. It is the largest and most active of the dissident republican paramilitary groups that continue to fight British forces in Northern Ireland.[6]

They call for the reunification of Ireland and its total independence from the United Kingdom, the group was founded in July 2012, by the union of the Authentic Irish Republican Army (Authentic IRA), a split from the Provisional IRA (PIRA), the Republican Action Against Drugs (RAAD) group formed by former PIRA combatants who began a battle against drug trafficking, especially in the city of Derry; by the Independent Republican Factions, a union of different groups of Catholic fighters, and by the Continuity Irish Republican Army (CIRA).[7]
