Chairman Omali Yeshitela of the African People’s Socialist Party (APSP) has been indicted by the United States regime on fraudulent, duplicitous allegations.
The state alleges that Omali and other codefendants took part in “election meddling,” and “spreading Russian propaganda” in tandem with the Kremlin.
The last several years the state has made several disproven allegations against the Russian state, in the US drive to maintain a unipolar world order.
This arrest has happened in concert with the heightened tensions from the US-Russian proxy war in Ukraine. As the US’s global hegemony begins to wane rapidly, this is one of the first explicit attacks on the left to maintain its narrative control in the escalating global conflict.
Chairman Omali has previously described the notion that he was working for Russia as preposterous.
“Most of my life, I have been struggling to change the circumstances for Black people in this country and around the world,” he said during a speech after the FBI raid, “so for them to cop some notion that some Russian had to tell me that it was wrong to murder Michael Brown and leave him in the streets for four and a half hours on 100-degree-plus asphalt… is the most extraordinary fabrication you can have.”
In response to the indictment, a statement from the Uhuru movement said: “At the advice of our attorneys, we are unable to make a statement or comment on the current indictment. However, we are looking forward to our day in court.”
The APSP will need solidarity efforts going forward. Furthermore the larger revolutionary movement should take note. The US will likely escalate its attacks on the truly antagonistic components of the movement going forward.
