The Amazon Libertarian Culture Center is the Target of a Fascist Attack in Pará

On January 14th, in the early evening, a group of fascists/neo-Nazis carried out an attack at the end of an activity at the Centro de Cultura Libertária da Amazônia (CCLA) in the center of the city of Belém do Pará. Armed with fireworks, in a black car with license plates protected by cardboard, dropped bombs on our headquarters. The action was quick, calculated and precise, thus demonstrating the degree of planning and disregard for people’s lives.

However, it is necessary to highlight that this same place attacked with fireworks promotes educational activities with children through popular education methodologies, with boys and girls. At the time of the action, the activity taking place was that of adults. If it were a different day and time, these children would be at serious risk of suffering psychological and physical consequences due to the trauma caused by an attack of this type.

Attacking a space like this is, therefore, further proof of the lack of respect for the integrity and even the lives of others on the part of those who support principles based on hatred, whether motivated by ideological differences or by racial, gender, ethnic or ethnic discrimination. class: people belonging to politically minority sectors of society, black people, indigenous people, trans people, women and everything that deviates from the fascist standard (male, white, Christian, privileged class, etc.) are permanent targets of these forms of violence that the CCLA suffered on 01/14.

The current situation of class struggles and their resurgence through the advancement of fascist/neo-Nazi ideologies throughout the world, managed by ultra-liberal, far-right and conservative groups on duty continue their escalation of hatred and violence against political organizations, social movements, activists and a whole constellation of social fighters who will never be frightened by this scenario.

In Belém, this fascist and ultra-liberal bloc is organized around sectors of the militia led by a former delegate and, today, federal deputy. Eager to take local municipal power and make the new mayor of the municipality, they will intensify practices like these, first attacking anarchists and then expanding to other political sectors of society. Let’s stay alert. Anti-fascist alerts.

In fact, we are and will always be the first line of combat against their dangerous ideas, but after the anarchists, our comrades from other organizations can very easily become the target of fascist attacks: all sectors that share anti-fascist struggle agendas have to feel attacked by us, as the fascists are just waiting for a failure on our “fronts” to take advantage of this weakness.

Another aspect that we highlight from this regrettable fact is its possibility of acting in a scenario that encompasses multiple scales. From global to regional/local, the political action of fascism is not just the result of a specific or punctual situation, it is linked to the gears of colonialism, which has one of its expressions based on the great world powers and their economic-war conglomerates, which grew and benefited from capitalism. Individualism, consumerism and modern types of slavery/servitude combine with practices anchored in exclusion and perverse, meritocratic and competitive sociability, which repudiates diversity and plurality to perpetuate their dominance and promote the homogenization and/or genocide of peoples who are express through common, collective territories.

We demand principles such as self-defense, resistance, mutual support and solidarity that become fundamental tools for the current situation. This is not a world view, these fascist/neo-Nazi groups act in a similar way and have as one of their objectives the homogenization of humans and societies: all forms of expression and existences, including nature, contrary to their sexist systems, patriarchal, monotheistic, racist and plutocratic are targets of their attacks.

It is in this scenario that we see Brazil and the Amazons involved. Plunged into a crisis that involves multiple times, scales and places, both in the countryside and in the city, from north to south, in all quadrants of this territory the logic of colonization and coloniality is produced and reproduced. Logic often forgotten in the interpretation of class struggles in the capitalist system. But it maintains the same logic of the privilege of the dominant classes. The same owners of the means of production, the large estates and the great fortunes.

In the Amazon, the brutality of the ruling class and its fascist allies against the people of the countryside, forests and waters remains in an increasing spiral. Using everything within reach to develop your process of expropriation of nature’s assets and the exploitation of our people’s workforce. On the state scene, the Helder Government co-opts most sectors of the left. All of this contributing to a policy of death, a necro-politics confirmed by data produced by the CPT that points to the legal Amazon in 2022 as the region with the greatest conflict with deaths in the countryside.

We conclude by saying that the CCLA is the result of a long process of rooting anarchism in the soil of the Brazilian humid tropics. An organizational construction that begins at the end of the Brazilian military dictatorship, constituted and forged in the culture of struggle and resistance that emanates from the working class and all subordinate sectors of society. From a region that relies on the rebellion of the Cabanos, the necessary gas for their daily struggles. This political positioning is uncomfortable and, therefore, we will continue to be uncomfortable, as we will not adjust and will succumb to this policy of death and fear presented by the fascist project.

Long live Anarchism!

Long live the free and fighting Amazon!

To fascism, not even water!
