On Friday, February 9, the Court of Appeals of Concepción has annulled the sentence that sentenced four young Mapuche community members to 15 years in prison in a flawed trial that had no evidence. The prisoners are: Ernesto LLaitul, Esteban Henríquez, Ricarlo Delgado Reinao and Nicolás Alcaman. The annulment responds to the appeal filed by the defense of the community members and was answered unanimously in the Sixth Chamber of the Court.
The Mapuche political prisoners, members of Coordinadora Arauco Malleco (CAM), have been on hunger strike for over 87 days to demand the nullification of their flawed trial, dignified prison conditions, and demilitarization of the Wallmapu.
A family member speaks: “This shows that it is a political trial by the government of Gabriel Boric, as the main persecutor in this process. Until the last moment, the presidential lawyer was present, and many times he has tried to delay this process. The Court of Appeals has ruled well and done justice today.”
The Mapuche community members are waiting for a new date for a new trial at the TOP in Los Angeles.
