Mass popular protests were witnessed in the centre of the city of Afrin against the practices and acts of the bodies and foundations run by the Turkish occupation state on Friday evening. The Electricity Building in the city centre close to the Kawa Circle was set ablaze.
Afrin’s local council building was also reportedly set on fire during the uprising.
This comes in a moment that Turkey is making preparations to start a new invasion on Rojava, as they send their mercenaries to areas around Minbic and Til-Rifat. HTS salafis were sent to Afrin and Idlib. The occupiers started attacking the protesters by shooting indiscriminately.
The protests were apparently triggered by an increase in electricity prices, but people are also demanding that the Turkish occupiers withdraw. “Turks out – Syria should be free,” people shouted during the protest.
Afrin was occupied by Turkey and its Syrian mercenaries during their military invasion in 2018, causing the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people – mostly Kurds.
Protests also broke out in al-Bab, Azaz and Mare.
