Mexico City | Desinformémonos. Las Abejas de Acteal announced a day to commemorate the 27th anniversary of the Acteal Massacre and 32 years of their journey as an organization, as well as to demand justice for the murder of Father Marcelo Perez, who was killed last October 20 in Chiapas.
The activities will begin on December 20 with fasting and prayer both at Las Abejas headquarters and in San Cristóbal de las Casas, and will continue throughout December 21 and 22, when they will hold a rally to remember the 21 women, four of them pregnant, 15 children and nine men massacred in the Tsotsil community on December 22, 1997 by a paramilitary group.
Las Abejas, who celebrated their 32nd anniversary on December 10, said that they will soon announce in greater detail the day of activities to be held on December 21.
For 27 years, Las Abejas de Acteal have denounced the lack of justice and that the current governments, “with their indifference and lack of political will, have decided to maintain the intellectual authors of the Acteal massacre in impunity,” as they pointed out on August 12, 15 years after the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation freed the paramilitaries responsible for the death of 45 men and women.
“The government in office, instead of creating guarantees of non-repetition of a crime such as that of Acteal, allows organized crime groups to keep the population terrorized, thus propitiating the forgetting of the Acteal Massacre, just like Ayotzinapa, Tlatlaya, Pasta de Conchos, Aguas Blancas and other State crimes committed throughout the country,” they condemned at the time.
