Two Soldiers Killed in Guerrilla Ambush in Philippines

A non-commissioned officer and a soldiers were killed and another non-commissioned officer and two other soldiers injured in an attack around 1:30 am on Friday October 7, by guerrilla fighters from the New People’s Army (NPA) in the city of Jipapad, in eastern Samar. These soldiers belonged to the 52nd infantry battalion based in Oras (eastern Samar). The detachment operated in the village of Barangay Dorillo when they were attacked by the guerrilla fighters.

In addition, the 94th infantry battalion of the Philippine army made a raid on an alleged NPA camp in Sitio Sig-Ang, in Western Negros. A 40-minute fight took place, with shooting and explosions. The guerrillas withdrew into the jungle. The results of the fight are not yet known.
