Judicial Harassment Against Anarchist Militant Gabriel Pombo da Silva: Italy/Spain

The Italian authorities are continuing judicial repression against anarchist militant Gabriel Pombo da Silva, who was sentenced to two years in prison for “incitement to crime” as part of Operation Scripta Manent, despite the recognition by the Spanish state that he has already served 2 years and 8 months of excess detention.

Refusing to recognize this excess sentence or to grant any alternative measure, the Turin court activated a European Detention Order based in particular on the absence of “repentance”.

On December 7, Gabriel was arrested in Spain after presenting himself at the Vigo police station following notification of this OEDE, before being released provisionally by the National Court of Madrid (see our article), which judged the request illegitimate because it was based on an “crime of opinion”. It nevertheless remains subject to strict judicial control, while a long legal battle begins against this transnational repression.
