The Islamic Jihad movement in Palestine issued a statement rejecting the formation of the so-called Gaza Peace Council, describing it as a structure designed “according to ‘Israeli’ specifications” that serves the interests of the occupation.
The movement expressed its surprise at the announcement of the council and the names of its members, emphasizing that the council’s formation undermines the framework of previously agreed steps aimed at de-escalation and political resolution.
Technocratic committee welcomed, peace council rejected
Islamic Jihad said it had abided by the first phase of the agreement and expressed readiness to move to the second phase, despite what it called the Zionist entities continuous violations and daily breaches of commitments.
The group noted that it had cooperated with the formation of a technocratic committee and facilitated its announcement in order to support the success of the agreed path. However, the emergence of the Gaza Peace Council, it said, reveals “negative and premeditated intentions” toward the implementation of the agreement.
Earlier, the White House announced the names of those appointed to the Gaza Peace Council, tasked with overseeing administration in the Gaza Strip.
According to the statement, US President Donald Trump will chair the council. He will be joined by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
The efforts by foreign powers to establish government structures within the Gaza Strip have drawn significant pushback from rights groups.
Below we publish the whole statement:
However, we were surprised by the composition of the so-called “Board of Peace” and the names announced, which came in line with Israeli specifications and in a manner that serves the interests of the occupation, clearly indicating premeditated negative intentions regarding the implementation of the agreement’s provisions.”
