DEUTSCHE BAHN, YOU ARE THE (CLIMATE) CRISIS!
Infrastructure projects mean progress and development, so the official narrative goes. But it is an illusion to think that this benefits the inhabitants of the respective areas. Rather, they are there so that the machine of industrial capitalism can run faster, which is necessary to keep the system going, especially in times of crisis. The main beneficiaries are the few who are on the winning side of the exploitative system.
Deutsche Bahn is one of Germany’s major infrastructure companies, profiting with its logistics from wars, neocolonialism and ecocide. Both here and on other continents.
One of their current projects that we are angry about is the restructuring of the Sternbrücke, which is supposed to make Hamburg’s city traffic more efficient. This goes hand in hand with gentrification and displacement. As with most new buildings, a lot of trees will have to be cut down.
The consequences of the “Tren Maya” (Maya Train) rail and highway project will be much more drastic: Over 1,500 kilometers, the new route is to connect five federal states. Politicians and companies promise jobs, an increase in tourism and even a path to modernity. In reality, the megaproject means the destruction of the last rainforests in southern Mexico, a further attack on the indigenous population, land grabbing and displacement, and additional militarization in one of the country’s most conflict-ridden regions. On the other hand, a few hope for big profits and push the realization of the “Tren Maya” unchecked. Deutsche Bahn and other German companies are involved in this murderous project.
Tonight, we smashed the windows at the entrance to the DB Service headquarters on Holsten Strasse and left the slogan “DB YOU ARE THE CLIMATE CRISIS”.
War, neocolonialism and ecocide start here!
Stop the colonial rail of the Deutsche Bahn and the so-called “Maya train” in Mexico!
Stop the reconstruction of the Sternbrücke!
