Philippines: New People’s Army Claims Elimination of 7 Soldiers and Agents

In the Philippines, the NPA (New People’s Army, the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines) claims to have killed seven soldiers and intelligence agents in a single week in the Negros Oriental region. On February 11, an NPA unit executed an armed forces officer involved in violence against civilians and peasant leaders. On February 15, five soldiers from the 11th Infantry Battalion attacking an NPA detachment in Barangay Santo Niño, Tanjay, were killed during a counter-offensive. Finally, on February 17, an intelligence agent from the 94th Battalion was killed by an NPA commando after resuming his surveillance activities.
