Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps announced that the USS Abraham Lincoln suffered significant damage after being targeted in an attack involving missiles and drones. According to the IRGC, the aircraft carrier is now withdrawing toward the United States following the strike.
The statement comes as Iran continues operations against US military assets and bases across the region in response to the ongoing US-Israeli aggression against the country.
Separately, a fire broke out aboard the US aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) in the ship’s main laundry area.
According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), the fire was allegedly not linked to combat operations and was quickly contained.
Iran continues strikes against US and zionist targets
Iran has continued launching missile and drone attacks against US bases in the region, naval assets, and Israeli military sites in occupied Palestine, as part of its response to the ongoing war.
The public relations office of the IRGC announced on Thursday that its naval forces carried out missile and drone strikes at dawn targeting the headquarters of the United States Fifth Fleet in Mina Salman.
According to the statement, the operation was conducted in two waves, employing a combination of missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.
The strikes targeted multiple installations inside the base, including the LIDS counter-drone defense system, as well as maintenance and storage facilities used for remotely operated boats.
Additional targets included support equipment facilities, fuel storage tanks, and assembly areas used by US troops inside the base.
The IRGC said the targets were struck with high precision, using loitering one-way drones, as well as cruise and ballistic missiles.
