Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem revealed on Monday that Iran had informed the movement it was seeking to bring the ongoing war to an end across all fronts in the region, including Gaza.
Qassem affirmed that Iran had extended political, military, and financial support to the Palestinian struggle and continued to express its backing and solidarity with the Palestinian people.
He stressed that Hamas was working to ensure Gaza remained central to regional negotiations aimed at ending the war and halting the aggression and that the enclave would not be sidelined from any broader efforts to reach a ceasefire.
Qassem added that the movement was engaging positively with any reasonable proposals put forward during ongoing talks in Cairo, expressing hope that solutions could be reached as soon as possible.
Reiterating Hamas’ commitment to reaching an agreement at the earliest opportunity, Qassem said the movement remained focused on ending the genocidal war in Gaza, alleviating Palestinian suffering, and halting the ongoing aggression.
The spokesperson also praised the Iranian and Yemeni responses to “Israel’s” expanding aggression, describing them as “a model of solidarity among the components of the nation.” He called on active forces across the region to treat this level of support and solidarity as a duty at the current stage, in defense of both the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples.
Gaza ceasefire talks resume
A new round of ceasefire talks got underway in Cairo on Sunday, with Egyptian, Qatari, and Turkish mediators sitting down with representatives from Hamas and other Palestinian Resistance factions in an effort to revive the stalled agreement, a Palestinian source told AFP.
Discussions focused on a proposed roadmap to complete implementation of the deal, with Egypt’s Al Qahera News describing the atmosphere as “positive” and reporting consensus around continuing the Trump-backed plan, whose first phase included a prisoner exchange, a halt to combat operations, Israeli troop withdrawal from residential areas, and large-scale humanitarian aid entry, none of which “Israel” has honored.
The second phase, which envisions a Palestinian national committee administering Gaza under the “Board of Peace,” Hamas disarmament, and a gradual Israeli withdrawal alongside reconstruction, remains beset by obstacles.
