HBDH Executive Committee commemorated martyred Commander Ulaş Bayraktaroğlu on the anniversary of his martyrdom.
In a written statement, HBDH said, “When the dates showed May 9, 2017, Comrade Ulaş Bayraktaroğlu (Mehmet Kurnaz), the valiant commander of the international struggle, who was at the forefront of the defense of the peoples of the region and the world against the barbaric ISIS gangs in Rojava, was immortalized. We remember him with our commitment to the glorious legacy of fighting he left us.”
The statement reads:
“To see his footsteps, his memories and, most importantly, his revolutionary militant stance in every field of struggle, to live with him, to take his experiences as a guide for us, his successors, is undoubtedly incomparably valuable. As a matter of fact, Comrade Ulaş took part in all areas where a revolutionary was blended in the struggle and pioneered.
He made it his duty to carry forward the fight that he started in high school during his university years. He had been at the forefront of YÖK protests and anti-fascist actions. He continued his struggle against the F-type prisons, which were created by the enemy to create the harshest isolation conditions. With his daring stance and leading role in organizing in Taksim on May 1st, he resisted the enemy with all his being at the point of demolishing the barricades. It was symbolized by the role he played in the glorious resistance of millions against the fascist power in the 2013 Gezi/June uprising. Together with the peoples of the Middle East, especially the Kurdish people, he has been an indomitable leader and pioneer commander of the Rojava positions to resist and fight against the oppression of ISIS. Their efforts in ensuring the liberation of Rojava from the barbarism of ISIS have offered important perspectives to the peoples of the world on how the international struggle should be. Again, he resisted the attacks of the fascist Turkish state to destroy the Kurdish people and movement by positioning himself in the Media Defense Zones and took important steps in the development of trench comradeship.
In order to make the struggle for revolution and socialism more comprehensive and organized, he undertook the leadership of the November Breakthrough process; he became the founding leader of the breakthrough with the task he undertook in bringing the breakthrough initiated with the United Freedom Forces to the summit with the establishment of the Revolutionary Communards Party.
He has been a theoretical and practical advocate of the perspective of a united revolution in providing a stronger response to the enemy’s comprehensive attacks, meeting the most urgent needs of the revolutionary struggle and organizing. He played his part in the transformation of the trench comradeship into an organized, programmed movement, and our movement took part in the establishment of the Peoples’ United Revolutionary Movement and made great efforts in its development.
The fascist Turkish state continues to vomit blood on the peoples of Turkey and Kurdistan. As always, the bill of the economic and political crisis continues to be paid by the masses of the working and oppressed people, and while the peoples are trying to calculate even how to buy bread, the ruling classes and the government do not take a step back from their own comfort. While the bureaucracy talks about so-called restrictions under the name of ‘Savings’ packages, it also poses with billions of watches and millions of meals, and openly procures the most expensive food products through special tenders to train its paramilitary forces. The government attacks all resistance centers with the same fascist methods, from the smallest struggle for rights to organized struggle; arrest, torture, isolation, and massacre. But the truth is undeniably revealed. Today, the truth is clearly revealed in the strikes of workers and laborers, in the rebellion of women and oppressed sexual identities against male domination, in the youth’s resistance for housing and education, and in the struggle of oppressed nations and beliefs, especially the Kurdish nation. Finally, May 1 and the Wan resistance have clearly demonstrated both fascist violence and the revolutionary stance against it.
‘MILITANT REVOLUTIONARY PIONEERS ARE NEEDED’
The process needs militant revolutionary pioneers such as Comrade Ulaş Bayraktaroğlu, who can handle all these developments correctly and are equipped with initiative, sacrifice and audacity. We can repel the attacks of the enemy only by following the path opened to us by our pioneer comrades and by correctly understanding and applying the legacy they have left us, and this is how we can develop the revolutionary struggle. Just like Comrade Commander Ulaş, we must handle every field of struggle in a way that will destroy fascism, regardless of the streets, dungeons, schools-universities, and the countryside, and we must act in accordance with the perspective of a united revolution.
With this awareness and devotion, we commemorate Comrade Commander Ulaş Bayraktaroğlu with respect and gratitude on his 7th immortality anniversary, and we promise all our martyrs, comrades in prisons and our peoples in his person; We will fight just like our vanguard and expand our united revolutionary war.”
