Anarchist Social Center Esp(a)ço, in Porto Alegre, Organizes Aid for Flood Victims

Almost the entire state of Rio Grande do Sul is still on high alter after historic flooding has done unprecedented damage and killed 144 people.

There were 620,000 displaced persons, of whom more than 81,000 took refuge in makeshift shelters. The state of Rio Grande do Sul, bordering Argentina and Uruguay, is the most affected area. More than 800 injured have been reported and 90 percent of the territory is damaged.

Fueled by the effects of runaway climate change and exacerbated by government neglect, these floods have submerged entire cities in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and many neighborhoods of its capital, Porto Alegre. They have wiped away entire communities.

The anarchist social center in Porto Alegre, Esp(a)ço, has been set up as a hub to receive donations of supplies, and to get them to those in need. The anarchist center has run a successful social media campaign to raise funds for the campaign.

The funds will primarily go towards supporting affected Indigenous and quilombo communities.
