Israeli Officer Killed in Shootout with Palestinian Resistance Fighters in West Bank

An Israeli officer was shot dead Friday during raids around Jenin in the latest act of Palestinian armed resistance against the Zionist occupation of the West Bank.

The Palestinian health ministry said 13 Palestinians were also injured during the raids.

The Israeli officer was injured in Burqin, near Jenin, during a shootout with Palestinian resistance fighters and later died from his wounds.

The invading Israeli army carried out several raids in the occupied West Bank early Friday jointly with police units.

The raids included one in the refugee camp of Jenin where veteran Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh was murdered by Zionist occupiers on Wednesday.

During the Jenin operation, Israeli forces surround the home of a Palestinian, besieging two men inside and then firing anti-tank grenades at the building in an act of colonial violence.

The raids came hours before Abu Akleh’s funeral, where Israeli police stormed the grounds of a Jerusalem hospital as the body of the slain journalist was being transported for burial. Zionist police brutally attacked mourners there, causing the coffin of Abu Akleh to fall to the ground.

A wave of anti-Zionist armed resistance has been growing, including the recent attack in which an Arab-Israeli police officer was killed.

A total of 31 Palestinians and three Israeli Arabs have been murdered in the same period by Israeli colonizers. Ongoing Palestinian resistance to the conditions of extreme oppression in the West Bank is an inspiration to all those who support anti-colonial struggles around the world.
