Two Soldiers Killed by the Guerrillas in Philippines

Two soldiers were killed on Tuesday by three members of the New People’s Army in the Barangay Cotmon (Albay region) market at 6:50 a.m. The two soldiers belonged to the 31st Infantry Battalion, which was guarding a Centerways Construction infrastructure project in Barangay Subong. The guerrillas seized the weapon of one of the soldiers.

A press release from the NPA explains that “this operation is part of the punitive campaign carried out by the NPA against the AFP units [the government army] and other state agents involved in blatant violations of human rights. The 31st IBPA to which the two soldiers belong is responsible for many fascist crimes against the populations of Albay, Sorsogon and Masbate. This action is also part of the tribute paid by the revolutionary movement in memory and as part of the revolutionary heritage of the comrade Jose Maria Sison.
