Turkish Army Continues its Attacks in Southern Kurdistan and Guerrilla Areas

While the guerrillas have been in a defensive position for humanitarian reasons since the severe earthquake in the Turkish-Syrian border region on 6 February, the Turkish state continues its attacks against guerrilla areas.

According to the daily statement by the Press Office of the People’s Defence Forces (HPG), the Turkish army continues its attacks on guerrilla areas in the Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq).

HPG reported that areas of Girê Bahar, Girê FM, Girê Cûdî, Girê Şehîd Heqî, the vicinity of Lolan River, and the guerrilla positions in Çemço and Sîda were targeted by 83 attacks with howitzers, mortars, tanks and heavy weapons.

In its daily statement, the HPG Press centre provided the following details on Turkey’s attacks on 3 April:

“The Deşta Kafya area in Gare was bombed three times by fighter jets. In Sîda, a guerrilla position was attacked with prohibited weapons. 21 other attacks were carried out on Sîda and Çemço with attack helicopters, howitzers, tanks and heavy weapons.

The areas of Sîda and Çemço in the Zap region have been the focus of the Turkish invading forces for months and are attacked daily.”
