No to Washington’s Transition – Haiti

Citizens from the grassroots sector and certain political organizations are firmly declaring their rejection of the political transition that the US State Department is preparing for us with a seven-member Presidential Council, plus two members from the business sector and a Prime Minister.
In fact, this executive will have ten members.

Negative reactions have already been recorded, such as that of the ANSANM political group, which categorically rejects this proposal, and according to Wilther Élian, its national coordinator, “the functioning of this council will not be fluid due to the number of members retained”.

“The seven-member composition is problematic,” he said, adding that he favors “a two-headed executive consisting of a president and a prime minister”.
The former senator elected from the Grand’Anse department in 2016 and former police officer converted to rebel leader in 2004, who has just served a sentence in the USA for drug money laundering, Guy Philippe is also highly critical of the USA’s transition project orchestrated with CARICOM.

He told the daily Le Nouvelliste that “the international community, through CARICOM, has decided, once again, to ridicule the Haitian people, as it has been doing for over a century. Since the departure of President Jean Claude Duvalier, the international community has been the architect of all our people’s ills. It is taking total and real control of decision-making power, with the sole aim of driving Haiti into the abyss.

Some organizations are already starting to put their representatives on the list. Already the Montana group, which for 2 years has been waiting for this moment with its president Fritz Jean. It is rumoured that Lesly Voltaire will represent Lavalas. The former Minister for Women’s Affairs, Marie Ghislaine Mompremier, will represent the political parties EDE\RED and Compromis historique.
Pierre Jean Raymond André will represent the Civil Society Group as an observer member of the Presidential Council.

The Collectif des partis politiques du 30 janvier has not yet published its choice. Moise Jean-Charles’ Pitit Dessalines party, which was involved with Guy Philippe in another 3-member project to take over the country’s presidency, has also yet to announce its choice.

The private business sector has also yet to officially announce the name of its representative.

The members of former Prime Minister Ariel Henry’s December 21 Accord are still waiting.  Unless they are preparing to designate the former PM, discussions are continuing.

The Parti Réveil National pour la Souveraineté d’Haïti was due to send a representative to complete the 7-member presidential council.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, the party expressed its disagreement with Caricom’s proposal. “We reject Caricom’s proposal”. Réveil took the opportunity to renew its loyalty to the three-member Council, brought forward jointly with Pitit Dessalines, for a denoucement of this crisis.

The three members proposed by Réveil National and Pitit Dessalines are Judge Durin Junior Duret, Guy Philippe, and Dr. Françoise Saint-Vil Villier.
