The Newroz fire, lit in the cities of Turkey and Kurdistan with calls for resistance and struggle, heralds spring this year as it does every year. Newroz, which has been a symbol of liberation for many Asian peoples since prehistoric times, continues to be a day when the Kurdish people, who have been subjected to political and cultural extermination, raise their resistance against fascist oppression. Just as thousands of years ago, the fire lit by Kawa the Blacksmith against the tyrant Dehak rose as a call to revolt; today, the struggle of the revolutionary vanguard in the cities and countryside also rises as a call to revolt against the current fascist power.
This year Newroz will take place in the midst of a local election. In the days leading up to these elections, which will be held under conditions of intense crisis and under heavy fascist attacks, it is hard to say that anything very different from what has happened in the last ten years is happening. However, everything that is happening is getting more and more severe day by day. Hunger is now mass. Exploitation is at an all-time high. Cruelty continues unabated. Fascist oppression and terror have become daily and permeate all aspects of life. Patriarchy murders a woman almost every day! Thinking that all this is not enough, the fascist government is preparing for a much bigger offensive after these local elections!
One of the most important arms of this offensive will undoubtedly be the attacks on the Kurdish people and their just struggle. After the elections, it is likely that the operations already underway in the legal field will accelerate. Free prisoners in all dungeons, which are essentially torture centers, will be subjected to much more intense pressure. The municipalities that the Kurdish people will win in these elections, whose will has already been usurped through the practice of trusteeship, will continue to be under the same threat of trusteeship. In Rojava Kurdistan, attacks on civilian production and energy facilities will continue, while invasion operations will be organized in Bashur Kurdistan to an unprecedented extent.
The Kurdish people, who for the last ten years have been subjected to political annihilation through these and similar attacks under the name of the “collapse plan” and for the last three years have been subjected to absolute isolation in the person of the Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan, are preparing to meet these attacks with the strength they receive from Newroz. This year, as every year, the voice of the guerrilla resistance in the countryside and the hunger strikes in the dungeons will echo in all the squares. The voice of the guerrilla and the free prisoners will call for resistance and struggle against frustration in these squares. It will be declared once again that an honorable peace can only be realized through a determined revolutionary struggle.
Giving strength to this call is one of the historical duties of revolutionary communists. So much so that, in the fascist offensive environment that will intensify after the elections, we have to confront all kinds of attacks against the Kurdish people shoulder to shoulder in a spirit of united struggle. Revolutionary communists must shoulder the just struggle of the Kurdish people today, as they did yesterday, without hesitation. The most valid way to do this: Revolutionary communists, who are aware that without the freedom of the Kurdish people, the workers, laborers and poor in Turkey cannot be free, must shout this truth with a much louder voice in this fascist offensive environment that will develop after the elections, and be actively involved in every resistance that the Kurdish people will launch.
This Newroz is the starting moment of our united struggle with the Kurdish people against the fascist offensive that will take place after the elections. We must welcome this moment with this consciousness and with the strength we take from it we must strengthen our supplies against the fascist offensive.
There is no middle ground for us anymore: Either we will liberate this disgraceful life, or we will consider it as never having happened! May this Newroz give strength to this new period of our struggle to liberate life.
