ELN: ‘From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will Be Free’

Until now, Israel has occupied more than 50 percent of the territory originally held by Palestine, and with the help of countries such as the United States and Britain, violates its sovereignty.

For more than 70 years, Israel, under the auspices of the United States (USA), began a process of occupation of Palestine, carrying out disproportionate offensive actions with attacks against the population, economic blockades, detentions, persecution and prosecutions, preventing the free development of its economic, administrative, cultural and religious activities.

The Palestinian people have defended themselves against Israel’s genocidal advance through social, diplomatic, political and military actions and have sought the support and backing of the international community to stop colonization. The last defensive action was carried out in October 2023, through military operations by air, sea and land, to stop the occupation, demand its recognition as a state and thus prevent the continuation of the extermination perpetrated by Israel.

Genocide has been a practice carried out by colonialism and imperialism to eliminate a part of the population, justifying these actions under the discourse of legitimate defense, but in the end it responds to the interests of the empire to take over territories, take over the commons, control wealth and seek a way out of the crisis of global capitalism at the same time that it enlarges the imperialist military base in the Middle East, in its attempt to maintain hegemony on the planet.

The genocide of the Palestinian people represents a failure for humanity in the complicit gaze of the world, of States, of international organizations, and a direct violation of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law; a genocide carried out through arms and starvation that today totals more than 33,000 Palestinians, mainly civilians, including children and women, and an uncountable number of people at risk of dying of starvation, by preventing the entry of food and humanitarian aid into Gaza.

The peoples of the world have condemned Israel’s disproportionate actions against Palestine, international days of support and solidarity have been held, campaigns have been carried out to boycott the companies and multinationals that have financed this massacre, there have been attempts, without much success, to censor Israel and condemn it for the attacks on hospitals. homes, shelters and the blockade of the entry of food and humanitarian aid, among others, since it cannot continue to argue a supposed fight against a non-existent terrorism, since what it is seeking is to eliminate an entire people: what we are experiencing today is a moral, political and legal defeat of Israel and the United States.

The U.S. has played a pivotal role in determining the genocide of the Palestinian people. Since 8 October, when the attacks on the people in Gaza began, it has supplied weapons, aircraft carriers, prohibited munitions; it has deployed more than 2,000 military units, facilitated surveillance and monitoring by air, sea and land, and recently approved $3 billion for additional military aid. Technological advances and the media at the service of imperialism have tried to justify, unsuccessfully, the colonization of Palestine that for decades has sought its liberation; they try to legitimize this massacre, violating, oppressing and misinforming the entire world, concealing the influence, arms support and support of the Biden administration for the Zionist occupation.

In the UN Security Council, several attempts have been made to stop the genocide in Gaza, but the initiatives have been vetoed by the US, showing its unconditional support for Israel. In previous days, a vote was held again and a resolution was issued for the first time demanding an “immediate ceasefire for the month of Ramadan… the immediate and unconditional release of the hostages… ensuring humanitarian access to protect the civilian population in Gaza”, on this occasion the US abstained from voting, mainly because of the global pressure that has been exerted against Israel’s actions; this abstention does not respond to a conscious act and in rejection of the acts that they themselves are sponsoring, they do it only to avoid a greater sanction to the genocidal State of Israel and that the decision taken by the Security Council does not end up harming their godson. USA has also stated that the resolution is not binding. Israel’s response to this was to be expected: it stated that it had no intention of abiding by the resolution.

The 15 countries that make up the UN Security Council must define an exemplary sanction, in which a commercial, financial and political rupture is given to Israel. It should be recalled that Israel’s aggression against Palestine responds to the confrontation of the US imperialist bloc with the emerging powers, evidenced recently in the failure of the war between Ukraine and Russia, where the US supported, backed and financed Ukraine.

From the ELN we stand in solidarity with the just struggles of the Palestinian people, a struggle against the Zionist and imperialist occupation, to stop the colonization and the elimination of an entire people and its culture.
