PKK Guerrillas Launch Multiple Attacks Against Turkish Forces in Zap Region and Afrin

The Press Center of the People’s Defense Forces (HPG) issued a statement informing about the war in the Medya Defense Zones. According to information, five soldiers have been killed in the western Zap region in recent days during guerrilla resistance against the Turkish occupation.

On 1 April, the guerrillas used sabotage tactics to defend a tunnel in the Girê FM area against an attack by the Turkish army. One soldier was killed and another was injured.

On 2 April, a soldier was shot dead by a sniper from the Free Women’s Association (YJA Star) on Girê Amêdî.

On 4 April, guerrillas carried out an action against a Turkish squad that wanted to plant explosives in a tunnel on the Girê Cûdî. Three soldiers were killed, and two soldiers were injured. The fighters confiscated an MPT-55 weapon, including a rifle scope, as well as two pairs of glasses and a headlamp.

Furthermore, in a statement on Saturday, the People’s Defence Centre Headquarters Command announced that “an ANKA-type armed and tactical unmanned aerial vehicle was destroyed by our forces in the skies of Zap / Çiyareş on 1 March 2024”.

Attacks by the Turkish army

Regarding the attacks by the Turkish army between 31 March and 4 April, the HPG reported that improvised explosive devices and drones loaded with explosives were used several times against guerrilla tunnel systems in the western Zap region.

On Monday, a tunnel at Girê FM was attacked with a chemical weapon. The gas used was white and smelled of chlorine.

In addition, the Medya Defense Areas have been bombed by fighter jets fifty times since Sunday.

The targets were the areas of Girê Kun, Xêrê, Dêreşê, Rêbînê, Mijê, Çemrobotkî, Deriyê Hirçê and Neqeba Xêrê in Gare, Serê Metîna, Dergelê, Bêşîlî and Golka in Metîna, Sinînê, Goşîne and Lolanê in Xakurke, Şehîd Îbrahîm in Zap, Girê Amêdî, Girê Bahar and Girê Cûdî in the western Zap and Zergelê and Balayan in Qandîl.

Afrin Liberation Forces launch successful attacks

The Afrin Liberation Forces (HRE) Press Liaison Centre announced that their units carried out 8 actions in response to the attacks of the occupying Turkish state and affiliated gangs against the region. In the actions carried out between 8 March and 2 April 2024, 9 gangs were killed, 9 others were injured and 2 vehicles and a motorcycle were destroyed.

The HRE statement said:

“-On 8 March, 3 gangs affiliated to the occupying Turkish state tried to cross the border line of the Shera district of Afrin. Upon the response of our forces, 1 gang was killed and the other 2 gangs fled.

-On 12 March, a raid was carried out against a gang point in Marea region. In the action, 3 gangs were wounded.

-On 20 March, 2 actions were carried out against the gang positions in the city of Azaz under the occupation of the Turkish state. In both actions, a total of 3 gangs were killed and 4 gangs were wounded. In another action carried out on the same day, a vehicle and a motorbike belonging to the gangs were destroyed.

-On 25 March and 1 April, an assassination action was carried out in Azaz, killing 2 gangs.

– On 2 April, 2 gangs were killed, 2 gangs were wounded and a vehicle was destroyed in an action carried out on the Meryemînê line in Şera district. On the same day, 1 gang was killed in an assassination action on the Mare line.”
