Always in our memory, comrade of CNT-AIT Almeria
On January 31, 2024, CNT-AIT Almeria militant and one of the main exponents of Almeria anarchism in the last thirty years, Miguel Angel Martínez Herrera died.
Tireless organizer and syndicalist, he was very active in the congresses and confederation’s elections. He was also concerned with the theoretical debates that influenced the militancy, being notable at the public level the second season of the magazine Adarga, which he headed, but also in numerous meetings and talks that were organized at different times. Likewise, he was in charge of the edition of La cocinera de Buenaventura Durruti through the publishing house Los Amigos de Ascaso. He was part of the team of the magazine Trébol Negro. He was invited to Granada on numerous occasions, the last time being at the beginning of October 2023 in the framework of the Social Summit. He could not attend in person, as planned, but it was possible to do it by videoconference. It was the last time, but not the first: in 2021, for example, he was at the Red and Black October with the talk “What work hides.”
Miguel Angel was born in Melilla on April 10, 1954. When he was very young he went to Almeria and settled there, being present in all the social history of Almeria in the late twentieth century and early twenty-first century. He worked as a janitor and civil servant. At the age of 69, about to turn 70, he leaves us, and with a bitter feeling that there was still much more to do. We have done a lot, but there was still much more to do. There is always much more to do!
Miguel Angel, thank you for all these years and for your struggle and dedication, which has given so much fruit to the CNT and to anarchism. It is now up to those fruits to follow your example and aspirations, we will be in the struggle and we will remember you!
