The extreme isolation in which the gendarmerie keeps the anarchist comrade Francisco Solar, sentenced to 86 years in prison for acting against power, has awakened a series of solidarity actions that seek to inform about his situation and definitively remove him from this regime, which is added to the long sentence that is nothing more than a life sentence in disguise. In view of this, the group supporting Francisco is calling on people to join the campaign that seeks his way out of isolation, as well as to participate in a week of agitation without borders from August 10 to 17.
Francisco was transferred in June 2021 along with other comrades to La Gonzalina prison in Rancagua due to the remodeling of the CAS. Upon his admission, he was placed in high security module 2, corresponding to his condition at that time of prosecution and the rest of the comrades located in module 1, which corresponds to the convicted. However, after being sentenced to 86 years on December 7, 2023, Francisco was not transferred to a condemned module, remaining until today without contact with the rest of the fellow prisoners. Added to this is the worsening of the isolation regime to which he has been subjected for 4 years, which keeps him 21 hours a day in confinement and 3 hours a day outside of it.
“Francisco was sentenced in December 2023 to 86 years in prison along with Mónica Caballero, who was sentenced to 12 years. During the investigation process and the trial, Francisco has been in a maximum security regime, first in the High Security Prison of Santiago, from where he was transferred to the Gonzalina prison in Rancagua, where he was placed in module 2, which is also a high security module. We are talking about a module of severe isolation, of a regime of total control and surveillance, we are talking in short about a prison within a prison, one of the most severe prison regimes in this territory, where the punitive and torture machinery of which the prisons are part, is expressed in all its forms.”

The Gendarmerie’s “argumentation” for keeping Francisco in this regime is based on the application of Article 28 of the prison regulations, as punishment for a misdemeanor (insulting a disgusting jailer during a raid). This article is implemented by means of a resolution of the national or regional director of the gendarmerie, which allows prisoners to be placed in solitary confinement on the grounds of: recidivism, type of crime, breaking rules or other reasons of a “technical” nature. This extreme regime, which has been imposed on Francis since April of this year, is applied for 6 months and then its reapplication is evaluated for 6 more months.

Confinement within confinement, extreme isolation, the suppression of parcels by mail, restrictions on visits, restrictions on face-to-face parcels, the choice between visits or parcels and covert life imprisonment, are the way in which power seeks to weaken and break the comrade, the objective of any regime of extreme isolation. For these reasons, this solidarity campaign without borders has been raised, as well as the call for a week of international agitation from August 10 to 17.
