The truce between the Colombian government and the ELN is about to expire. The latter, in fact, did not wish to extend the ceasefire, denouncing in a statement the fact that the government would not respect the agreements signed in recent months during the negotiation rounds held in Cuba, Venezuela and Mexico (see our article). The guerrillas demanded that the government remove the ELN from the list of “organized armed groups” (GAO), which includes various armed groups including guerrillas with political or ideological discourse. Following the expiration of the truce, the government announced that the state armed forces would soon resume their offensive actions against the ELN.
