Philippines: Five Maoist Cadres Killed by Army

Three wanted Maoist cadres, for whose capture bounties had been promised by the authorities, were killed on 15 August near the mountainous village of Cabatangan (Iloilo) by soldiers of the 301st Infantry Brigade. Vincente Hinojales was the secretary of the Panay Regional Committee (KR-P), Maria Concepcion Araneta-Bocala was the first deputy secretary of the group, and Rewilmar “Vivian” Torato Teodosio was the secretary of the KR-P Central Front.

On Thursday, August 22, Joan Lacio “Mark” Encarnacion, 31, and Jolina “Chloe” Martinez Sergio, 30, (photo) respectively vice-commander and political instructor of a guerrilla unit in Central Negros, were killed by soldiers of the 94th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Buenavista, Negros Occidental. The two executives had married in the maquis in 2017 and were wanted by the security forces.
