On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, a military base located in the department of Arauca (north–east of the country) was attacked in an operation attributed to the ELN. A truck loaded with homemade explosives exploded near the soldiers, killing three and injuring 25 (four officers, seven non–commissioned officers and fourteen soldiers). Following this attack, the government decided to stop peace negotiations with the guerrillas. This stop marks the end of a deterioration in the talks between the two sides. In addition, the alert level has been raised in all military bases.
