In the different corners of the world and all over the planet, in the parts and in the whole, it so happens that there are people like this…
Who say “NO”, when the majority nods with resigned disinterest.
Who raise their heads, when the majority bows them down.
Who disbelieve, when the official creed is imposed on the majority.
Who have principles, whereas the majority invents alibis.
Who seek truth and justice, while the majority goes astray.
Who walk to find, while the majority sits and waits.
Who fight, when most give up.
Who say something when they speak, when most repeat.
Who, when they look in the mirror, find themselves, while the majority demands that they lose themselves.
Who keep watch, while the majority sleeps.
Who dedicate themselves, while the majority is managed.
Who are insubordinate, while the majority obeys.
Who differ, when the majority is the same.
Who listen today to the ominous sound of tomorrow, while the majority hears only the noise of the false past.
Who are discontented, while most are resigned.
Who open their eyes, while the majority closes them.
Who cry out, while the majority deafens itself with slogans.
Who make their way, fighting through rubble, blood, bones, mud and shit, choosing destiny, rhythm and company, while the majority swallow the bitter pills that appear on the well-worn route of lies.
Who neither forgive nor forget, though the majority professes the religion of apathy.
Who think critically, while the majority consults the dogma du jour.
Who fight because it is their duty, and not to be part of the majority.
Who are just a crack, while the majority becomes a wall.
Those people. So small. So distinct. So different. So few. So necessary.
Those people are there. Even if they are not named, even if the gaze of Power does not take them into account, even if they are not heard at the top, even if they do not appear in surveys and statistics.
Those people…
For them our heart.
Our ear attentive to their gaze.
Our words searching for them.
Our common embrace in spite of geographies and calendars.
For them, and with them, the celebration of encounters…
From the mountains of the Mexican Southeast.
The Captain.
