André Olivier, 81, a former militant with Action Directe in Lyon, has been released on parole under electronic monitoring since October 14 with several obligations: a ban on carrying weapons, on meeting anyone convicted of “terrorism”, and a ban on publication and public statements. The former French teacher has always refused to ask for his release, in opposition to the judicial system.
On June 29, 1989, the Rhône Special Assize Court sentenced him to life imprisonment, with a non-parole period of 18 years. This conviction was linked to a series of robberies and armed actions carried out in the name of the anti-capitalist and anti-colonialist struggle.
