“The Democratic Front” on the occasion of Palestinian Prisoner Day: Let national and international campaigns against colonial terrorism against Palestinian prisoners escalate, and let the “prisoner execution law” be overturned.
The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine stated that this year’s Palestinian Prisoner Day arrives while the criminality of the “israeli” occupation against our people’s freedom prisoners and female prisoners has reached a peak not seen since the occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip in 1967. The war of starvation, abuse, medical negligence, and isolation—which has led to the martyrdom of approximately 90 prisoners since October 7—is a fascist policy that has intensified over two and a half years of the genocide war against our people in the Gaza Strip. This has been followed by the colonial system of the occupation state legislating the killing of freedom fighters through the “prisoner execution law,” which reflects the occupation’s inability to stop our people’s resistance, while simultaneously revealing the fascism and brutality of the occupation in its treatment of prisoners with crimes rarely seen in the treatment of national liberation movement prisoners by colonial powers in the twentieth century.
The Front’s statement added: The rampant colonial violence and terrorism against more than 9,600 of our heroic free people in the prisons, including 84 female prisoners and 350 children—which violates international law and the Geneva Conventions—is an extension of the war of genocide against our Palestinian people. It is being practiced with excessive sadism before a silent world, except for some timid condemnations to which the occupation state has paid no attention. The occupation Knesset is now directed by the fascist and racist “prisoner execution law,” as viewed by many international human rights organizations, which expresses the spreading desire for revenge by the most fascist government since the establishment of the occupation state against our people and their prisoners.
The Democratic Front affirmed that the “israeli” occupation state will not achieve the goals intended behind this fascist law, nor through the various crimes committed against our prisoners—represented by striking terror into the ranks of our Palestinian people and intimidating its resistance fighters to dissuade them from resisting the occupation, nor in “criminalizing the struggle against the occupation” with the aim of undermining our national project, which is gaining increasing support and backing daily from components of the international community, including condemnation of the occupation’s crimes against the captive national movement, pushing the occupation state further into international isolation and ostracization.
The Democratic Front concluded its statement on the occasion of Palestinian Prisoner Day by calling on the masses of our people in the homeland, the diaspora, and places of refuge to increase mass movements in support of the prisoners’ cause, considering it a central issue among the components of the Palestinian cause, embodying the slogan (No freedom for our people without the freedom of its prisoners). It also called on the International Committee of the Red Cross to pressure the occupation state to resume prison visits, and demanded that all countries, international human rights institutions, and international courts that condemn the occupation’s measures against Palestinian prisoners translate their positions condemning the crimes committed against them—most recently the execution law—into punitive measures against the occupation state to force it to retreat and overturn this law.
