Khalil Yaqub Buhazaa, a Bahraini communist activist and labor rights expert, was arrested and held incommunicado by the authorities after speaking out in support of Palestine and against normalization with Israel. Several organizations are denouncing increasing political repression in Bahrain targeting opponents, trade unionists, and human rights defenders, amid heightened restrictions on pro-Palestinian mobilizations and criticism of the government. Numerous arrests, revocations of citizenship, and convictions have recently been reported against activists and internet users accused of threatening the kingdom’s interests in the context of the imperialist-Zionist offensive against Iran.
