Faced with what is happening in Haiti today, will it be possible to escape the lamentable political quagmire in which the country finds itself? Other countries are also going through crises, but ours is plunged into an unparalleled crisis of governance.
Institutions are no longer functioning, and the shattered social fabric grants impunity to political and economic power. Organized crime runs the state apparatus through a biased justice system and an insecurity that characterizes political and social violence, the source of the shameful acts of both the corrupt and the corrupted.
No one dares to raise their voice against the anarchy and corruption that are eating away at the country. There are those who prefer to say nothing; Furthermore, others lack arguments, because it concerns their own regime, or at least, since the Transitional Presidential Council, they have offered their unconditional solidarity to the traditional political class, the natural ally of the anti-national bourgeoisie.
However, we at Haïti Liberté, remaining consistent and faithful to our ideological principles, are always able, regardless of the class position of the architects, planners, and more generally, the most zealous designers and executors of government policy, to expose them to the public.
Today, it’s a major step backward, and with a few exceptions, the majority of the national press applauded the visit to Haiti of US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau. Many displayed their pride, especially when they saw the exchange of hugs and selfies between the “son of the empire” and his representative in the “colony.”
It is no exaggeration to say that they want to drag Haiti back into a new colonial era. Within the corridors of power, no one sees the slightest anomaly; everything is perfectly normal. On the contrary, some figures are delighted to see the Prime Minister forging good, friendly relations with the imperialists. As the press release from the Prime Minister’s office states, “Washington seals a major political commitment and offers its absolute support to Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé.”
As for those who claim to be on the left and, moreover, boast of being “anti-imperialist,” what do they say? Nothing. We know the adage: silence implies consent! Under no circumstances would the current barbarity have been possible if this sterile left, following in the footsteps of the pro-imperialist bourgeoisie, had not given it its full political support. His way of seeing and understanding things embodies the antithesis of the historical values of the Haitian nation. One could even argue that the descendants of yesterday’s colonists, in collusion with the freed slaves—nostalgic for the colonial era and now wielding power and all the resources—are ultimately re-establishing this system in concert with the new American colonizers.
This policy, moreover, rejected by the vast majority of the population, is nonetheless the one favored by the political class, which, for years, has chosen to enrich capitalist powers through our mineral resources. This represents a return to a colonial situation unprecedented in the Caribbean. For us, imperialism has no friends but its own interests. This justifies their imposition of Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, and it is perfectly natural, if he proves effective in their eyes and they do not sanction him.
On the contrary, they will give him their full support, as they are demonstrating with Christopher Landau’s visit to encourage him and also to intimidate all those demanding his departure this June, in accordance with Article 149 of the amended Constitution, which stipulates that the Council of Ministers, under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister, can exercise executive power in the event of a vacancy. However, this provision is framed by a clear and strict mandate of a maximum of 120 days.
In this scenario, “Before June 7, 2026, the Prime Minister, through the Council of Ministers, is responsible for organizing elections.” Given the timeframe, this is mathematically impossible. Contrary to what the Prime Minister’s charlatans claim in their press release asserting that “this historic visit has sealed an unbreakable pact between Port-au-Prince and Washington,” this visit, for our part, constitutes a perfect illustration of colonial domination.
This confirms the recolonization of the country. The true reasons for this visit are to make us believe in the good intentions of the Yankee masters and to make us accept the unacceptable horror.
