North Carolina Bertie-Martin Prisoners Take Guards Hostage, Seize Jail in Uprising

Prisoners seized control of parts of a regional jail in eastern North Carolina on Monday after overpowering correction officers and taking two guards hostage. The uprising at the Bertie-Martin Regional Detention Center in Windsor is another instance of revolutionary fervor in the US as the state further descends into blatant fascism.

At the time, 88 prisoners and three guards were inside the facility. Reports claim that prisoners fought back against the staff and gained control of the facilities.

Bertie County Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin said his office received a call reporting that the detention centre had been taken over and that two correctional officers were being held hostage. The first deputy arrived within two minutes but was unable to enter the facility.

One correction officer managed to escape, while the other two were held in custody. Negotiations resulted in the release of the two state prisoners.

Eventually all correction guards were released. The details of the negotiations are not clear.
