On Sunday, July 5, the Popular Front of Turkey announced the death of Gürkan Türkoğlu, a revolutionary activist sentenced to life imprisonment. Incarcerated in a so-called “well” prison, he had begun a 267-day hunger strike to protest his prison conditions and obtain a transfer to a less restrictive prison. His request was granted, but his health deteriorated significantly after a medical procedure, leading to his death in a hospital in Antalya. Following the announcement of his death, numerous tributes were broadcast in Turkey and across Europe.
