Communique of the Unification of Peoples and Colonies Against Mining in Morelos

OCTOBER 12 DAY OF RESISTANCE OF THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLES OF THE WORLD. COMMUNIQUÉ OF THE UNIFICATION OF PEOPLES AND COLONIES AGAINST MINING IN MORELOS.

The indigenous peoples of Mexico continue to resist for our existence, after 530 years of invasion we continue to be invaded in our territories, we continue to be displaced, militarized, disappeared and dispossessed of our lands. Today, October 12, Day of Indigenous Resistance, we salute all the peoples who fight for life, for territory, for water, for air, for mother earth, we salute our sisters and brothers of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN) and their support bases and we demand that the three orders of government stop the harassment and militarization of the Zapatista peoples, we also condemn the destruction of the territory by the passage of the so-called Mayan train in the villages that resist the mega-projects of death.

We denounce the violations of our human and collective rights as indigenous peoples, the devastation of our territories, of our sacred hills by extractive companies and the Mexican State for allowing such devastation of our culture and identity. We, the organized Nahua peoples of the State of Morelos, have united and we have made THE DECREE PROHIBITING MINING, AS WELL AS THE CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION OF INFRASTRUCTURE LINKED TO THE INTEGRAL MORELOS PROJECT AND DEATH PROJECTS IN THE TERRITORY OF THE NAHUA PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MORELOS approved on April 23 and 24, 2022.
The Nahua communities of Cuentepec, Tetlama, Coatetelco, Xoxocotla and Alpuyeca native towns, as well as the surrounding colonies and municipalities of Unidad Morelos, Temixco, Xochitepec, Acatlipa, Xochicalco, Tezoyuca; Benito Juarez, Aeropuerto, Las Rosas, Francisco Villa, Miacatlan, Palpan, Milpillas, Xochicalco, will be seriously affected by the mining concessions Esperanza Silver, Alamos Gold and Zacatecas Silver, Canadian companies that bring a devastating mining project, paradoxically called “ESPERANZA”, for the exploitation, in open pits, of gold, silver and other minerals; This project will seriously affect our ancestral waters, lands and territories, the ecosystems of the region, the Apatlaco River sub-basin, the Amacuzac River basin and the Cuernavaca Aquifer, including its water recharge zones and phreatic mantles, as well as the life and health of approximately 200,000 inhabitants who live in the communities and their surroundings. The archaeological site of Xochicalco, declared a World Heritage Site in 1999 by UNESCO, is located 500 meters away, making it a sacred site for all the native communities.

That is why today we vindicate the struggle of the native indigenous peoples of Morelos, Mexico and the world, making the corresponding denunciations for the devastation of the sacred hills of Jumil and Calabaza, we point out that the mining companies Esperanza Silver, Alamos Gold and Zacatecas Silver do not have the corresponding permits to cut down trees, make roads and destroy our flora and fauna of our territory.

We also denounce the Morelos Integral Project (PIM), which is a mega-project of death, regional energy that affects the Nahua peoples surrounding the Popocatepetl volcano in the states of Morelos, Puebla and Tlaxcala and consists of two thermoelectric plants, the first of which has been installed approximately three hundred meters from the community of Huexca, Morelos. To feed these plants, a 160-kilometer gas pipeline has also been imposed that dangerously crosses the slopes of the Popocatepetl Volcano, a volcanic and highly seismic area. Likewise, a 26-inch diameter aqueduct is being built that intends to deprive the ejidos of 580 liters per second of irrigation water in the region of the municipality of Ayala. We also stand in solidarity with the struggle of the people of Tepoztlán who are resisting a mega-tourist project and with the people of Jiutepec who are fighting against the lime mining company, which has caused cracks and destruction of the houses of the inhabitants.

OUR STRUGGLE IS FOR LIFE, NO TO THE MINE!
THE HOPE FOR JUSTICE… IS THE CARBINE THAT ZAPATA LEFT US!
