Action in Solidarity with Alfredo Cospito at the Greek-Italian Chamber of Commerce in Athens, Greece

Message of Resistance – Intervention at the Greek-Italian Chamber of Commerce as a gesture of solidarity with Alfredo Cospito

“The question of the issues, the lever for awakening the insurgent power of the world is therefore Internationalism.” (Alfredo Cospito)

“Because for those who love life, to respond when the question of life and death is at stake is an act of duty, from Monday November 7 I am starting a hunger strike” (Anna Beniamino)

Anarchist prisoner Alfredo Cospito has been on a hunger strike to the death in Italian prisons since October 20, demanding that the 41bis solitary confinement regime applied to him be lifted.

41bis is a sensory-depriving solitary confinement regime that constitutes torture and is one of the harshest special detention regimes in the European Union. The Italian state’s attack on Alfredo Cospito is not simply a state choice to eliminate an unrepentant anarchist guerrilla, It symbolizes the full frontal assault on the choice of armed struggle and is carried out through anti-terrorist policies and special detention regimes.

The comrade’s strike is therefore both a struggle against torture and special conditions of detention and a fight so that the defense of the choice of armed struggle remains relevant and is not defeated through the murderous silence imposed on Alfredo Cospito.

The internationalist solidarity in the name of the comrade with the symbolism it carries must act as a lever of awakening for the international anarchist movement that has not been subordinated to reformism and opportunism.

Political prisoners from Italy, France, England and Chile are going on hunger strikes and symbolic protests, while solidarity marches, rallies and attacks are trying to shape the conditions for our comrade’s hunger strike to become the cause of all people who are fighting against prisons, anti-terrorist laws and torture.

On Wednesday 30/11, one day before the court session that will decide whether to prolong the torture of our comrade in 41bis and in the context of the day of action in solidarity with the hunger striker Alfredo Cospito, we visited the Greek-Italian Chamber of Commerce at 102 Solonos Street, where we painted slogans, threw paint and left flyers, wanting to send an internationalist message of resistance to the attempted extermination of our comrade by the Italian state.
