The HPG press center issued a written statement that YJA star guerrilla fighter Viyan Özgür and HPG guerrilla fighter Bahoz Çiya Şehîd were martyred.

“Despite our movement’s decision not to take action and our guerrilla forces’ compliance with this decision, the attacks of the occupying Turkish state have not stopped and have continued to attack our Medya defense areas. On April 21, 2023, our comrade Viyan Özgür died in the attacks of the occupying Turkish army on the west of Zap. Heval Viyan, a YJA Star fighter from the start, was a role model for all her comrades with her Fedaî-style participation and unwavering commitment to the Rêber APO and Şehîd line.
Our condolences go to our precious society in Camp Maxmûr, the Spêrtî tribe and our world-aparêzen Kurdish society, especially to her precious family who raised a heroic fighter like Comrade Viyan for the freedom struggle of our society.

Due to the welatparêzen characteristics of her family and the city of Maxmûr where she was born and raised, our comrade Viyan knew our party from an early age. From an early age, she tried to understand what was going on around her, and in her youth, this attempt at understanding turned into more questions. Above all, she asked herself why thousands of people from our society left their country together with their families and emigrated to Maxmûr. She also wondered how free was the life that was offered to her and if it really was a life worth living. In these questions she saw and recognized the reality of the enemy. She felt great anger at the practices done by the enemy to our society, which demanded and fought for only the most natural human rights. Our comrade, knowing that she could give the enemy the necessary response by channeling her anger into battle, realized that this was possible by joining the guerrillas. The fact that one of her older sisters also took part in the fight for freedom and is still fighting also influenced Comrade Viyan and she dreamed of following in her sister’s footsteps and fighting for freedom side by side. Like a sapling touching the water of life, as soon as our comrade Viyan met the mountains of Kurdistan, she found herself and took the first step on the path to “xwebûn”. Thanks to the deep-rooted welatparêzen culture and the social ethics of her esteemed family and the area where she lived, our comrade Viyan managed to keep her essence without being contaminated by the filth of the system and she developed this unique personality with the trainings passed on to the PKK, which she received. Our comrade, who was active for a while in the Qandil area, where she received her first education, tried to understand and implement the life of the Party. Then she moved to the Zap area and for a while engaged in practical work in that area. For this she has always concentrated and tried to do her best. At Hêzên Taybet headquarters, she participated in activities that required a high level of responsibility, Attention, trust and initiative required and successfully put these activities into practice. Through her dominance and initiative in the works she was involved in, she pioneered the development of the works. She never considered her current involvement sufficient, stating that in order to be worthy of her fallen Hevals and Rêber APOs, she must work more and have her involvement commensurate with her claim of sacrifice. Because of this, our comrade Viyan has had an invaluable stake in her life. She was always sincere in her cooperative relationships and saw herself as responsible. She enriched our lives with her characteristic temperament and her character, which gave morality to those around her. Our comrade Viyan created in herself the apoistic Fedaî spirit and proposed to take responsibility in the practice of war and set the goal to avenge the Şehîds. Based on this, she moved to West Zap, where she met hundreds of her Hevals, fought together, and some of them became Şehîd. “In our statement of May 13, 2023, we stated that on May 2, 2023 in the Bagok area of Mêrdîn fierce fighting took place between the enemy and our forces and that our comrade Bahoz Çiya Şehîd fell in these fighting. Our comrade Bahoz, who resisted the enemy attacks with great courage and determination and killed Şehîd with his self-sacrificing struggle until his last breath, became immortal as a representative of our party’s resistance line.
We extend our condolences to all our welatparêzen fellow human beings, especially to the esteemed family of our comrade Bahoz, and reiterate that we will keep his memory alive in our struggle.
As our movement in the Serhed region developed, our Qelqelî society became steadfastly loyal to our party, the PKK, and filled the need of the Welatparêzî with hundreds of precious sons and daughters to add to our struggle. Against all kinds of enemy’s physical torture, genocide and massacre, they have not in any way given up their stance, thus showing the enemy the honorable stance of free Kurdishness. Our comrade Bahoz, born in Qelqelî to such a brave society, undoubtedly grew up with the education, morals and welatparêzen consciousness he received from his family and environment. Therefore, he knew our party from a young age and it was his greatest desire to join the guerrilla, which he considered a hero of his childhood. Our comrade Bahoz, who did not go to the schools used by the genocidal Turkish state as a tool to assimilate Kurdish children, thus had a chance not to get caught in the enemy’s assimilation wheel. However, the occupying Turkish army has developed many methods of genocide against our society. She has used all kinds of immorality from drugs to prostitution as a weapon against our society and has tried to keep Kurdish youth away from our freedom struggle with these methods. Our comrade Bahoz, aware of this policy of the enemy, raised his consciousness and thwarted this policy of the enemy in his personality. Our comrade went to the metropolises of Turkey for some time, where he witnessed and was exposed to the enemy’s discriminatory policies. The enemy’s ban on the Kurdish language and culture in all walks of life and efforts to keep it under pressure caused a great reaction from our comrade Bahoz. The development of the gang attacks against the Rojava freedom revolution, supported by the Turkish state, and the development of the massacres against our society triggered an important phase of decision-making for our comrade Bahoz. He believed that as a Kurdish youth he must defend our society against all attacks of the enemy, and in 2014 he turned his face to the mountains of Kurdistan and fulfilled his childhood dream. The development of the gang attacks against the Rojava freedom revolution, supported by the Turkish state, and the development of the massacres against our society triggered an important phase of decision-making for our comrade Bahoz.
Our comrade, who received the training of new fighters in the Avaşîn area, quickly adapted to guerrilla and mountain life with the training he received. In guerrilla life, he was first struck by the guerrilla’s sacred cooperative relationships. He considered it a mistake to compare the cooperative relationships in the PKK environment with friendships in other countries. Because he recognized that the PKK Hevaltî is a Hevaltî of ideas and goals and he tried to be a good Heval for his Hevals by participating in life with this awareness. Our comrade Bahoz, who worked as a guerrilla in Avaşin area for about 2 years, became proficient in the art of guerrilla warfare here. He managed to gain many years of experience in a short space of time and he began to lead his hevals. Our comrade, who has always been in the forefront against the occupying Turkish state’s attacks on the Medya Defense Zones, distinguished himself by his unwavering participation. He did not hesitate to face the enemy with self-sacrificing participation and played an important role in many actions that took place. His successes in these actions made him a Heval for all of his Hevals to follow. In 2016, he was seriously wounded in an enemy attack in Avaşîn area. After his return from treatment, he first received ideological and commando-technical training at the Mahsum Korkmaz Academy and then immersed himself in the new era of guerrillaism through special military training. Our comrade Bahoz, who made it his main goal to expand his struggle and thereby meet the reality of the Chairman and Şehîd, believed that this would be possible through direct struggle against the colonialist Turkish state in Bakur Kurdistan. Based on this, he turned his face to Bakur Kurdistan and made his way to the area of Serhed, where he was born. Later, however, he had to switch to other activities for certain reasons. He did not betray the confidence of his Hevals by participating in these activities, the high security, required attention and discipline. With his successful exercises, he fully fulfilled his duties and responsibilities for this period and managed to live up to the expectations of our society and his hevals. Our comrade Bahoz, who managed to move to Bakur Kurdistan which was one of his biggest dreams and fought in Mêrdîn area, led his hevals here with his precise participation. He was one of our Hevals who, in the extermination operations initiated by the enemy since April 27, 2023, dealt blow after blow to the enemy forces and successfully fulfilled his historical duty and Şehîd fell. With his successful exercises, he fully fulfilled his duties and responsibilities for this period and managed to live up to the expectations of our society and his hevals. Our comrade Bahoz, who managed to move to Bakur Kurdistan which was one of his biggest dreams and fought in Mêrdîn area, led his hevals here with his precise participation.
