Call to Break Silence: Hunger Strike against Anti-Terror Laws in Berlin Continues

24.10.2023, Berlin

As previously reported on Abolition Media, there is an ongoing hunger strike for the last 7 months in the middle of Berlin. The hunger strike of Eda Deniz Haydaroglu, also joined by Ilgin Guler and Sevil Sevimli passed the critical stage of 200 days already. The demands are very simple: the pre-trial detention of Ozgul Emre, Ihsan Cibelik and Serkan Kupeli is not a necessary measure for their case and they must be released during their time for trial. Three of them were arrested on 2022 in Germany with charges of being a member of a foreign terrorist organization under the controversial law 129b. Ihsan Cibelik, a member of the socialist music project Grup Yorum, is also diagnosed with prostate cancer. The prison authorities postponed the initial biopsy for several months and now the court decision to free him is also postponed continuously. Eda’s, Ilgin’s and Sevil’s demand is the immediate release of him so that he can be able to receive treatment.

German state seems to be too busy to be a part of another genocide, so they don’t understand what is going on in front of their eyes: a young revolutionary socialist woman from Turkey is dying in a tent in front of their Ministry of Justice. This is understandable as we do not expect anything better due to their class characteristic. What is more concerning is that the German left also seems to be too busy about condemning the actions of Palestinian resistance to care about insignificant lefty revolutionaries starving themselves. As it is a tradition of the German left from the time of the second international, they seem to be not bothered about the ethical consequences of abandoning their principles of internationalism in favour of being ‘pure’ about the ‘very complex’ issue of breaking out of the biggest concentration camp in history by any means necessary. So we understand (!) why they leave Eda, Ilgin and Sevil alone, very busy people!

The censorship also includes the blockade from general media (ZDF, ARD etc.) and also from left media in general. For example, it took Junge Welt, a prominent news outlet of German left, several months with lots of inquiries to finally make news about the issue. We would like to take the attention of international comrades, organizations and all of the media that is in solidarity with revolutionaries to this issue and the ongoing resistance. Eda, Ilgin and Sevil can be found daily in the tent in front of the Federal Ministry of Justice in Mohrenstr, Berlin. More information about the hunger strike, demands and the trial can be found in https://antiimperialiststruggle.noblogs.org/post/2023/09/27/materials/

Especially Eda entered a very critical stage of her health conditions, and any day is very dangerous for her. This is a call to break the silence of the issue.
